My 3 Favorite Books

  • A Long Way Gone, written by Ishmael Beah Feb 13 2007, is a memoir written about his time serving as a child solider during the civil war in Sierra Lione. I really enjoy this book because its authenticity with the violence involved in that lifestyle. Telling personal tales of the senior officers hopping them up on cocaine and having them smoke a mixture of cocaine and marijuana they called “brown brown”. This book helped open my limited perspective of the world about events that I never learned about.
  • A Fractured Mind, Written By Robert B Oxnam Feb 5 2013, is a psychological memoir told from the perspective of an individual living with Multiple Personality Disorder or DID. Robert, at the height of his career was the president of the Asian Society in New York giving tours of China to president Clinton and given Bill Gates. But behind the scenes struggling with blackouts of drinking, aggression, waking up random places. It wasn’t until later he was diagnosed to have 11 different personalities living within him.
  • The Divine Comedy, Written by Dante Alighieri completed in 1320, is a 3 part narrative poem some consider one of the best. From its telling of concepts of religion and conceptualization of the different layers of hell and purgatory. It uses real historical figures as symbols for symptoms of greed and murderous intent to dictate where they ended up after passing. It a complex and rich narrative that is challenging but conceptualizing at the same time.
